Zhen Shan Xiao Zhong black tea: smoky and elegant

Hi. In today’s session we have one of the most popular black teas in China: Zhen Shan Xiao Zhong.

This black tea welcomes us with a dense and pleasant smoky aroma. The leaves are small and minimally rolled, hence its name that literally means “the real small mountain leaf”.

We prepare the infusion with a traditional Yixing clay teapot. We add about 3 grams of tea, and water at a moderate temperature, about 70 degrees or so, to make a short infusion, as far as time is concerned.

For this tea we will also use a strainer and a glass jug, also called the cup of justice. This will help us to better understand why black tea in Europe is called red tea in China. Related to this, the infusion has emerged a beautiful, clean cherry reddish color, leaving the best for last: its flavor.

This Zhen Shan Xiao Zhong has an enveloping, elegant flavor, leaving an aftertaste with a very pleasant presence, and like the great quality black teas, without bitter traces.

To understand its quality, it is worth mentioning that the great fame of this variety of Chinese tea has made it possibly the most attempted replica, both in India and Sri Lanka, but without success, given the unique conditions of climate, land , humidity and above all height in which it is grown.

In short, one of China’s great teas on its own merits, a luxury of tea that is enjoyed from start to finish in every way, 100% recommended.
