Hello, welcome to our Tea Time. Our tea afternoon today we are going to dedicate you to enjoy a white tea Bai Mu Dan of higher grade, also known as White Peony King.
This white tea is grown in the Chinese province of Fujian, and is in fact one of the flagship of this region, and is considered “China’s famous tea“. White tea could be considered the freshest, or at least the least processed. That’s why it’s the most antioxidant you have, even more so than green tea.
The first impression of the aroma is fresh and pleasant, reminiscent of forest. The appearance of the leaves is very wild. The leaves of this white tea are slightly coiled, finding several shades ranging from lighter green to a little darker. Of course, the mark of the house of this tea are its sharp stems.
We prepare the infusion with about 4 grams of tea in a typical Chinese Gaiwan, to which we add water at a moderate temperature, about 70ºC. The infusion time is similar to that of green tea, about 3 minutes.
When making the infusion the aroma begins to fill the room. It is a tea with character, but without finding a strong aroma as with varieties of black or green tea. The once infused leaves are shown in an average size, with some typical “two leafs and one shoot” picking, also called “imperial picking”. Of course, two types of leaves differ, one more elongated and the other wider, a darker color.
The infusion is a dark amber color, and this time we have cleaned the leaves, which means that we discard the first cup and we add water to the Gaiwan again. Even so, it does not lose color in the following infusions.
The taste is very good. Soft, with a slight fruity touch and not bitter. The aftertaste left in the mouth is persistent, fresh and very pleasant, with touches almost sweet. It’s all these nuances that make you understand why its name: Peony King. A white tea of superior quality, ideal to take it easy, to enjoy it as it deserves.
