Hello. Today in our tea session we enjoy of a very special tea: Yue Guang Bai. This red tea from Yunnan, is very special not only for its leaves, but also for the way it’s elaborated.

The leaves are whitish on one side and dark on the other, with a sharp stem that makes people to consider it a white tea. Although at a first glance gives us a scent with typical presence of the earthy touches of the authentic Pu Erh tea.

We are going to prepare this red tea by adding about three grams of tea, to pour the water at 90 degrees. We will let the tea be infused for about five minutes.

Yue Guang Bai, which means “white moonlight“, owes its name to oxidation in the light of the moon, rather than in sunlight.

The aroma has presence, being stronger than in other varieties of green tea and oolong. The taste has a subtle touch to earthy Pu Erh, which with another very well balanced bitter touch makes this Yue Guang Bai a very special tea, with character but easy to drink.

A point in favor of this tea is that it holds on very well to go refilling the teapot with water for several times. Without losing color, flavor or aroma, Yue Guang Bai is a great tea to enjoy a long tea session, either alone or in company.

As a curiosity, even in China there are people who relate it to the variety Bai Hao Yin Zhen, by the shape of its leaves, even being from two different areas such as Yunnan and Fujian.

In resume, a tea with a lot of personality, from the shape of its leaves to its flavor full of details. Far from the floral aromas of green tea and smoked black tea, this Yue Guang Bai Yunnan shows us a new side of the coin playing with bitter and earthy flavors and aromas. A great way, with very good taste, to expand the knowledge about different types of tea.
