Now that we are in the middle of the fall, and that temperatures have dropped, that is when colds start to appear. Although it is always better to prevent than to cure, here is a little advice to make the recovery time of colds more bearable.
Ginger is a more than valid ingredient to prevent and combat the symptoms of colds. The important thing is to prepare it in the right way. In this case the first thing you have to do is to boil the ginger with water for about 10-15 minutes. You can add it in slices, leaving the skin after having washed it well.
Once we have our “ginger soup”, we use the water to make the tea infusion. It is best to do it with pure green tea (Longjing, Liu An Gua Pian, Fujian Maofeng, for example), although it can also be prepared with a Tie Guan Yin Oolong or with a Taiwan Alishan oolong.
It is important not to take this infusion too hot, as it can irritate the throat. Although there are people who recommend adding honey, we prefer not to.
Ginger has expectorant, antitussive, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties that help fight colds, flu and cough with phlegm. If we add the fact that both ginger and green tea help strengthen defenses, due to antioxidants, we have an infusion not only to fight, but also to prevent.
And finally, as we indicated in the title, these are allies against colds and its symptoms, being the most important thing to have some rest, as well as to consult with a medical specialist.
