Hi everybody. We return with our Tea Time to start enjoying and sharing the new tea harvest 2016. Last week we announced new types of white tea that already have at your disposal in our tea shop. Well, today we enjoy White Tea Pearls, a top grade variety from Fujian Province.
These white tea pears are based on a selection of the best leaves, rolled in a manual process in which the savoir faire and approach of the tea picker. As mentioned, this tea comes from Fujian, the cradle of white tea, grown in some areas and very specific point, as far as weather conditions and humidity is concerned.
The first thing that calls our attention is the size of tea balls, slightly larger than typical green tea and jasmine (jade jasmine pearls). You can notice the typica Bai Mu Dan leaves there. The scent is fresh and soft, without being very intense but really nice.
We prepare the infusion using about 4 grams of tea for a small teapot, with water at about 75°C. The infusion time is typical of white tea, about 3 minutes, similar to green tea but leaving it during a little more time.
At the moment you pour the water, the tea balls they just open, showing us some medium and whole size leaves, without broken pieces. These leaves have different shades from darkest to lightest, typical of Bai Mu Dan white tea.
The difference of this variety of tea is that it has a little more intense flavor than white tea standard, but still mild compared to green tea. It has a point of bitter taste that fades as you take another cup, leaving a fresh and lasting taste.
The color of the infusion is ocher with golden hues. In this particular case, we have concentrated the amount of tea in a small teapot in order to take it to limit, as far as the taste is concerned. This also affects to the color. Anyway, the result is a clean infusion, in which the quality leaves are so much concerned.
In resume, a way to show that white tea can have a more intense flavor, without losing that touch of freshness and still be a soft tea. Some people often comment that white tea has no flavor, they are only flavor nuances. Well, with a good quality tea as this White Tea Pearls harvest 2016 we demonstrate it has. A good example that certifies the deserved reputation of this variety of tea, not only in China but also internationally.
