We come back to the green tea in today’s Tea Time with a variety not well known here: Taiping Houkui. This Chinese green tea, whose name means “peaceful monkey leader”, comes from the province of Anhui and is considered one of the most important teas in its country.

Well, this is very different from the rest teas, as far as to the scent and sight is related. This is a tea with a fresh scent, reminding grass. A really powerful smell. And the most surprising thing is the shape of the leaves. Really big, maybe the largest ones. In order to enjoy it, have to be handled with care.

A tea of this type, as large leaves, can be infused without problems in a big glass to enjoy while seeing the strands. We have already mentioned before that to put the leaves directly into the cup and pour the water is a very Chinese custom. In fact, there are teas that are measured in terms of sheer beauty when brewed: the so-called “beautiful teas”.

Taiping Houkui has a nice taste, not as strong as the aroma, but with all the fresh flavor typical of a good green tea. A good choice after meals to freshen the mouth, apart from having all the properties of this type of tea. Also, a must for all those who consider themselves fans of Chinese tea.
