The clay with which these teapots are made has some very special characteristics, and this is why its continue to have a great reputation. In fact, there are Yixing teapots made by national masters which reach prices comparable to artworks.
What makes them so special? Well, they are clay made and have no enamel coverage inside. You could say they are like a sponge, since eventually develop a patina inside depending on the tea used. So it would be like a wine’s wooden barrel. It is for this reason that we recommend using them with a single type of tea such as oolong and pu erh.
We recommend cleaning it with water only, without using dishwasher and keep it drying in the sun. A tip before you use them, based on what was done here too with clay trays and pots, is boiling it in water for a while (30 minutes for example), so that the pores are closed and the teapot becomes more resistant.
