Hello. Welcome to a new tea tasting session in which we will enjoy the black tea variety of Qimen Hong Cha.

This black tea from the Chinese province of Anhui has a subtle aroma right off the bat, alternating fresh and slightly fruity touches. The leaf is rolled, and is dark, hard and of medium size.

We prepare this black tea using a Yixing clay teapot. Given the size, each of the infusions will be shorter than normal. We add three grams of tea and water at approximately 80 degrees.

We infuse for less than a minute and add it to the glass of justice using a filter, to enjoy a clean infusion.

The smoking leaf remains whole, an unmistakable sign of quality, and begins to release a denser and more powerful aroma.

Once a second infusion has been added and filtered into the jug, we serve it in the cup, so that we can fully enjoy its color and flavor.

This Qimen Hong cha is a reddish color with slight amber tones. This color is precisely what gives it its name. Hong Cha means red tea in Chinese.

The flavor is very balanced, with light astringent hints typical of a black tea, but maintaining that fruity aftertaste that was shown in the aroma. This flavor gives it more depth, being a tea that leaves a very pleasant and round taste in the mouth. In fact, in China this is one of the most popular fermented teas, being a different alternative to other Dianhong-type varieties from Fujian and Yunnan, as well as other smoked varieties.

Definitely, a very harmonious tea with its own personality, which in itself sets a quality standard in terms of the flavor and aroma of a fermented tea, and leaving the bar very high. One of the flagships of the Anhui region, along with Taiping Houkui green tea, in its own right. Totally recommended.

Good. That’s all for our session today. Thank you very much for your attention and see you soon!!
